Music

Everyone loves music, children included. We teach children familiar melodies to encourage their knowledge of rhythm and tempo, often using actions to make songs more interesting and encourage participation.

We sing whenever we feel like it - during circle time, on walks, transition between activities and clean-up.  Songs, such as “The Clean-up Song”, are often utilized to help a child transition from one activity to another.

Movement (with the music) helps children to discover things about themselves and what their bodies can and cannot do. Children will be initiated to basic musical instruments such as the xylophone, castanets, maracas, tambourines, triangles and bells.

Activity Examples:

  • Daily singing including children’s favourites and seasonal songs
  • Daily exposure to various music forms  
  • During quiet/nap time, children can hear classical or world music in the background.
